Hurt People Hurt People

Justice-impacted individuals need our acceptance and support to get back on their feet. Instead, they are often ridiculed, stigmatised, and ostracised from our society — creating a significant social and fiscal cost.

77%

People in prison have been exposed to violence within their lifetime, predominantly within their family.

80-90%

Employers prefer hiring people with little experience or lengthy unemployment, rather than formerly incarcerated individuals.

59%

Of people will reoffend within two years of release.

$201,480

Cost per year to house someone in prison, and that cost is skyrocketing.

Punishment Is Expensive,
Rehabilitation Is Not.

Almost all individuals will return to the community from the justice system. To break the cycle of crime and create safer communities for everyone, we need to invest more effectively in this population.

If we want people to leave the prison system and do better, then we — as a society — must take an active role in making that happen.

From Behind Bars And Beyond

Today, Take2 teaches people both in prison and in the community to code through a rigorous training programme. These advanced technical skills create meaningful employment opportunities upon release while addressing one of the biggest skill shortages in New Zealand.
Technology Skills

Today, Take2 teaches people both in prison, and in the community, to code through a rigorous training programme. Advanced technical skills provide meaningful employment opportunities on release while simultaneously addressing one of the biggest skill shortages in New Zealand.

Alongside technical skills, Take2 also teaches advanced life skills — the things you wish you’d learned in school, such as teamwork, communication, growth mindsets, and resilience — helping participants create meaningful change in their lives.
The Take2 programme extends beyond prison, offering support to participants for at least 24 months after release, through mentoring, coaching, apprenticeships, and day-to-day reintegration services.

The Past Should Not Define
Who Someone Is Today

Take2 is committed to improving the well-being, confidence, and skills of justice-impacted individuals, creating hope for a brighter and better future for themselves and their whānau.

We are committed to working with employers to unlock the talent within the justice system and overcome the stigma of criminal convictions — ultimately helping justice-impacted individuals reintegrate into society and break the cycles of crime.
